Atlus’ new title ReFantazio reveals its story and world setting
Atlus’ new title, ReFantazio, will be released on October 11 on PC and console platforms. Recently, the official team revealed part of the game’s plot and world setting.
A Journey Across the World
The protagonist embarks on a journey to save a cursed prince and participates in the “King’s Election.”
To become the king, one must earn the trust of the majority of the people. In order to gain the public’s trust and defeat other powerful competitors, the protagonist sets off on a journey across various regions.
The election will decide the next king within approximately six months. Can the protagonist and their companions earn the trust of the people within the limited time, and what achievements will they accomplish during this period?
A “Realistic” Travel Experience
To allow players to experience the real essence of travel, the game introduces a “date” concept. Just like modern travelers typically limit their trips to specific durations, such as three days and two nights, players in ReFantazio can experience travel in a similar way, spending time in various stopover locations.
On this journey, players will visit lively cities like the royal capital, pastoral towns, coastal cities, and more. Each stopover offers unique encounters and events, such as interacting with local residents, visiting special facilities, and enjoying regional specialties. Sometimes, players may even encounter monsters that threaten the safety of local residents.
Within the limited time, players can freely choose when to visit certain places and what to do there, enjoying a “realistic” travel experience in a way unique to ReFantazio.
The “Ironclad Caravan” Vehicle
Dangerous areas known as “the Wildlands,” home to thieves and monsters, separate large towns, making travel difficult. The “Ironclad Caravan” is a large armored vehicle powered by magic, designed to safely transport people through the Wildlands. It can move autonomously and serves as a “mobile base.” The protagonist and their companions will travel in the Ironclad Caravan as they journey from place to place, winning the support of the people.
Life Inside the Ironclad Caravan
While traveling in the Ironclad Caravan, players can engage in various activities inside the vehicle, much like a road trip with friends in a camper. They can cook, read, chat with companions, and even take a nap if there’s nothing else to do. The caravan is equipped with rooms such as a strategy room, kitchen, and entertainment room. Players can also step out onto the deck to experience the vast world while traveling. The ability to engage in a variety of activities and trigger various events inside the Ironclad Caravan is one of the unique features of ReFantazio.
Stopover Locations During the Journey
The Ancient Town of Martira
Unlike the bustling royal capital, the ancient town of Martira is a peaceful, pastoral town. One of its local delicacies is a dish made from a type of larva, which is used to welcome visitors. Although the town appears calm and serene, the nearby desert is home to a monster known as the “Great Sandworm,” which not only disturbs the residents but also causes dangerous incidents. The protagonist and their companions will face the challenges that arise in this town.
The Royal Capital, Grantorado
The story of ReFantazio takes place in the United Kingdom of Uchronia, with Grantorado as its capital.
The city is home to various races, with a constant flow of people. The well-maintained streets and bustling markets leave a vibrant and luxurious impression.
However, hidden within the city’s alleys are execution sites, and the streets are lined with the homeless huddled on the ground. Inequality and discrimination spread throughout the world of ReFantazio, and even in the royal capital, many live in unease.
